Döner Summer, Leeds // Feature Friday
Today, we’re reviewing Döner Summer – what I like to think of as the home of plant-based junk food.
During a trip to Leeds, a stop off at Döner Summer was an absolute must. I’d heard great things and seen some seriously tantalising pictures on Instagram. This quirky eatery is nestled next to Blue Rinse (a fabulous Brooklyn-esque vintage shop with four floors of retro clothing and more pairs of Levi’s than you could shake a stick at). The vibe of DS is warm and welcoming with an abundance of plants, exposed brickwork and neon lighting – overall a great ambience any time of day. I went there in the evening and absolutely loved the lighting and chatty/casual atmosphere.
Döner Summer’s menu is full of choice. Just a note, though, if you usually opt for a bean burger over a vegan “steak” or meat-alternative, then this place may not be for you. For those who like the imitation products, this is an absolute gem. From buttermylk fried “chicken” to plant based kebabs, there’s an array of flavour and interest on the menu.
There are multiple locations too, which is great news if you’re based further up north in the UK: Huddersfield, Hull, Manchester, Sheffield and York. If they ever open up shop “down south” I’ll no doubt be their first (and best) customer!
All in all, the food is delicious, the prices are good, and the portion sizes definitely won’t leave you feeling hungry. If you’re in Leeds, or any of its neighbouring cities, be sure to stop by Döner Summer – you won’t regret it!
